With pretext of New year
The year 2013 , marked by a lot of happenings --pleasant and unpleasant , good and bad, inspiring as well as depressing--is giving place to a brand new year. Let us hope that it begins on a positive and cheerful note. Let the year be a healthy and prosperous one!
The passing away at the age of 95 of Nelson Mandela , the towering South African leader and an iconic world statesman , was mourned deeply across the world.
"At least four things are vital to reboot India.
The first is environment. We need to mind climate change , clean up soil, water and revive forests. Everything else will be irrelevent .
The second is human development. The quality and quantity of education in the country is woeful. 26 percent of Indians are still illiterate. The government record of public health is equally abysmal. Health expenditure is $ 43 per capita compared to $ 87 in Sri Lanka. Just 2% of the GDP.
The third is infrastructure. There is no hope of sustained economic growth, human development and good governance. A country with such a terrible public transport, energy supply ,sewage system and electronic communication cannot deliver a descent life.
Finally , there is weak Indian State. A strong state is one that has decision making, implementation, regulatory and adjudicatory and enforcement capacity," says Reimagining India ' report published by Mc Kinsey ,(Times of India, 14, December 2013)
